A new joint MBA Amsterdam-Vlerick
11 Sep 2007Recruitment has started for the Independent EMBA - an Executive MBA designed and delivered jointly by Amsterdam Business School and Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School. The 18 month long weekend programme is designed to satisfy participants who are searching for a programme with a high international student ratio, normally only experienced by students enrolled in a full-time programme.
The Independent EMBA gives participants the freedom to take an EMBA on their own terms – without having to obtain support from an employer or interrupt a busy international work schedule. This means they can manage their careers and still make professional progress through classes scheduled during one weekend a month and four one-week-long modules. Classes alternate between Leuven, Belgium, and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Both towns are easily accessible by major European airports and high-speed railway connections. One of the week-long modules is the international entrepreneurship study trip which is included in the cost of the programme.
The first class of 40 students will start their studies in January 2008 and will graduate in July 2009, having completed the strategic project and having dealt with a broad array of general global management subjects. Key teaching strengths of the two educational institutions include developing the so-called soft-skills, the traditional financial disciplines, and the famous Flemish entrepreneurial attitude. In addition, participants have open access to the student and alumni networks of both institutions worldwide.
Participants will be in the early stages of mid-career and will have supervisory or management experience. International experience and responsibility is highly favoured. Both Amsterdam Business School and Vlerick are organising special information sessions and admission days to select the initial candidates.
The total tuition fee for the Independent EMBA is 25,000 euro, excluding travel and accommodation costs during regular weekend and week-long sessions in Leuven and Amsterdam.
Willemijn van Dolen and Peter Rafferty, programme directors of the Amsterdam and Vlerick MBAs respectively, welcome the design of the programme as a much requested enhancement to the range of programmes traditionally available to would-be EMBA students throughout Europe.
