Vlerick Masters in Financial Management climbs in Financial Times ranking

Results of the ‘Financial Times Masters in Finance 2016’ ranking

Vlerick’s Masters in Financial Management programme has improved its position in this year’s Financial Times Masters in Finance Ranking by 3 spots. We are now ranked at 23 worldwide and are the only Belgian programme in the ranking. Our CFA-accredited Masters in Financial Management programme provides an excellent broad and in-depth corporate finance education complemented with relevant managerial skills. Currently, the programme has 59 students representing 15 different nationalities.

According to professor Wouter De Maeseneire (Director Masters programmes at Vlerick) this result is exceptionally strong, since competition is growing: “Compared to last year the ranking now counts 55 instead of 50 programmes. We also notice a rise in non-European schools present in this ranking. Over the last few years competition has increased substantially. On the one hand, this is due to the development of new Asian business schools, but also within the US and Europe more business schools are launching a specialised finance Masters. We are therefore very pleased to see that our position in the ranking reflects the programme’s added value and our sustained efforts to continuously strive to further optimise it.”

The increase in our position is the result of excellent progress in terms of career development after graduation. As for career status three years after graduation – which is measured according to seniority and company size – we have gone up 3 places. Moreover, we gained 7 spots for ‘international mobility’, which means that an increasing number of graduates have changed their country of employment between graduation and today. The successful career of our graduates is equally reflected in their salaries which have improved more compared to the average salary improvement of all schools in the ranking.

Another explanation for our performance is the high score for ‘aims achieved’ - the extent to which graduates fulfilled their goals for doing the programme - where we went up 12 places. Furthermore, we do very well in terms of ‘value for money’, and as for ‘international course experience’ we rank number 10. Next to the finance trip to London, a rising number of students opt for an extended international experience by doing their in-company consultancy project abroad.
