How can you and your company use crowdsourcing, crowdfunding and cooperation to achieve its goals?

A select group of keynote speakers will look at “Power of the Crowd” from several angles and sectors.

Nathalie Beckx, founder of Trendhuis

A helicopter view on the theme ‘Power of the Crowd’

Trained historian, former teacher and journalist, Nathalie Beckx founded ‘Trendhuis’ in 1996 and specialized in detecting trends and defining strategies for renowned multinationals and organizations.

Trendhuis houses the team of Bexpertise specializing in profound trend research, the team of Bekx&X offering strategic advice and media projects, and publishing department Trendbookx creating inspiring trend books.

Nathalie Bekx is socially committed. She is founding member of Time4Society, member of the steering committee of Kom op tegen Kanker (Fight against cancer), member of the board of directors of VOKA and member of the general assembly of the Flemish Institute for Health Promotion.

Wouter Verschelden, founder of Newsmonkey, on crowd sourcing wouter-verschelden

As former Editor in Chief of De Morgen, Wouter Verschelden saw possibilities for a news site designed for the digital reader.
He started Newsmonkey, an independent newssite for the young Change Generation. The venture was realized via the biggest crowd-funding operation in Belgium so far Wouter will highlight the use of crowdfunding and the future developments for Newsmonkey

Modragon is a Spanish business group in the Basque area, made of 257 companies and entities organized in three sectorial areas: Financial, Industrial and Distribution. Mondragon is the fruit of the sound vision of a young priest, Don José María Arizmendiarrieta starting a co-operative in the 50’s. The venture grew to into a business with over 74.000 worker-members. The company combines the basic objectives of a business organization competing in international markets with the use of democratic methods in its organization and with special emphasis on job creation, the promotion of its workers in human and professional terms and a commitment to the development of its social environment. Mikel Lezamiz will provide us insight into the workings of a large cooperative. How a crowdbased business venture can grow into the 10-th largest company in Spain ?

Pieter Dewinter (MGMG 2005), currently works at Corsan, started the NGO YouBridge in 2009 with two fellow Vlerick alumni. YouBridge wants to bridge the digital divide, by providing youngsters in developing countries online access and consequently a social network of students and entrepreneurs from developed countries. Under the motto of transparency, innovation, international, strong employee engagement, Youbridge fills a gap between a growing crowd of avid learners and companies realising a corporate social responsibility programme.

Jempi & Julie Moens, Fresh Forward

Julie Moens (1998) is currently in her last year of high school. From the age of 13, she lectures about Generation Z and their future. As a “watcher” of her own generation she has lead inspiration sessions at events and for companies like Unilever and MTV Networks. Jempi Moens (1961) is a trained psychologist (KU Leuven) with a Vlerick MBA in Marketing Management (SLM). He was co-founder of marketing consultancy Censydiam, specialized in human behaviour.
With his company Fresh Forward, a bureau in strategic innovation and creativity he is leading next level innovation for companies like Friesland Campina, Bonduelle, Heineken, Centraal Beheer, Shell Retail, La Place, Google, Unilever en Albert Heijn. The daughter and father team will provide us with a fresh and pure look innovation and Generation Z. How do youngsters interact with communication, media and technology ? Do they form a crowd to be reckoned with ?

Filip Nuytemans, Operations, Uber Belgium

After graduating in bioscience engineering (KULeuven) and business administration (HEC Paris), Filip decided to work outside of Belgium. He built up experience in a wide variety of jobs such as management consulting (Bain), FMCG (Nestlé) and even started his own company. Finally, he decided to return to Brussels to launch Uber. Uber is evolving the way the world moves. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through its apps, Uber aims to make cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers. From its founding in 2009 to launches in over 200 cities today, Uber's rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer.
