In an increasingly competitive environment and high pressure for innovation, the ability of the Flemish Government to facilitate and enhance entrepreneurship by means of supportive policies is of paramount importance to lock and improve welfare. Policy research carried out by recognised academic institutions offers a significant reinforcement to the government in developing superior policies on innovation and entrepreneurship, and in monitoring the results of such policies throughout time.

A consortium that consists of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Ghent University, and Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School has been chosen as partner to develop a policy research centre on "Entrepreneurship, enterprises and innovation". The centre follows an integrative approach to create momentum in policy research concerning entrepreneurship, enterprises and innovation. The consortium is based on networks and working relationships between the institutions that are well established and that are highly valued throughout academia and the business world. The blend of experience and expertise guarantees that fundamental and applied research is carried out at the leading edge with a fundamentally important and explicit focus on policy making by the Flemish Government.
