ICT management

ICT deals with designing the right architecture, setting up a suitable infrastructure and installing the best applications to support your business. Linking in to business reality is of course essential to success. ICT management is the knowledge domain that deals with managing information and communication technologies. In this knowledge domain we ask questions about the business relevance of the ICT architecture, infrastructure and applications installed. Furthermore, we research the management of information products and their ultimate results, i.e. what kind of data, information and knowledge do we need at an operational, tactical and strategic level? And how do we get the right information at the right time?

Today, ICT delivers more than just fundamental support for your operations. ICT helps shape your business. As an essential part of today’s companies and organisations, ICT interfaces with many other knowledge domains such as strategy, governance, service management, project management, knowledge management, investments and budgeting, outsourcing, human resources and interactions, legal and ethical aspects, etc.

Our research, expertise and executive education programmes in the field of ICT management focus on optimally managing investments in information and communication technology.

Key research areas

ICT management is an umbrella term for the knowledge domains in which we have built up expertise:

  • Business-IT Alignment

Business-IT alignment deals with the alignment of the IT strategy of an organisation with its business strategy. From a business point of view, it is the desired state in which a business organisation is able to use IT efficiently and effectively to achieve its business objectives.

  • ICT Strategy and Governance

Corporate responsible management of an organisation and its investments in information and communication technology is essential to every organisation in today’s information-driven reality. Developing an ICT strategy that complements the business strategy is obviously a key success factor. ICT Governance focuses on ICT-related decision-making to ensure effective use of ICT and desirable behaviour of ICT-managers.

  • Web 2.0 / Social Software for Companies and Organisations

When we talk about the ‘Web 2.0’, we are referring to Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Wikipedia, etc. These websites and tools are visited and used by millions of people all over the world. But not only individuals use these platforms at the moment. Some companies, like P&G, Bekaert and Connections have further developed Web 2.0 platforms to stimulate creativity and open innovation. Our expertise focuses on the management side of realising value from Web 2.0 investments for companies and government organisations.
