Business intelligence
Getting the right information to the right people at the right time, that's Business Intelligence (BI). BI encompasses all the capabilities required to turn data into intelligence that everyone in an organisation can trust and use for more effective decision making (G. Miller, D. Bräutigam & S. V. Gerlach, 2006). Davenport en Harris (2007) defined BI as a set of technologies and processes that use data to understand and analyse business performance. Business Analytics are a subset of BI and refer to the extensive use of data, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis etc.
Key reseach areas
Our research and expertise focuses on the decision and implementation process for BI investments. More specifically, we address the interaction between IT-people and non-IT specialists. Consequently, we focus on the managerial aspects of BI: ICT governance, project management, investment analysis, etc. Next to our research activities we also organize a 3-day BI Workshop on a yearly basis, we are part of the Business Process Innovation Conference and every year two of the sessions from the “We invite for you” programme are aligned with how we look at BI investments.
