For 51% of their purchases, Belgians who have access to the Internet go surfing to determine what they will buy and where they will buy it. So, searching online for information concerning the purchase is much more important than actually purchasing over the Internet. The biggest obstacle for the consumer is the over-abundance of information. Despite the Internet’s great importance as a source of information, Belgian websites are lagging behind their international sector-peers. These are the results of an online study, conducted by InSites Consulting and Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, involving 2000 consumers that have recently made a purchase, Blog research with consumers in the process of making a purchase, and an analysis of 120 Belgian and international websites.

The School still stands at No. 1 in the Benelux and in 14th place in Europe. Worldwide, Vlerick has become a perennial member of the top 40 − the School ranks 34th to be precise.
See complete story...US Direct Investment in Belgium slows after two years of record growth
After record inflows of $8 billion in 2005, the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium (AmCham Belgium) disclosed that US investment in Belgium had slowed to $4.5 billion in 2006. These new numbers, commissioned by AmCham Belgium and conducted by the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, included the triennial Business Confidence survey which found that the high employment cost was the main reason for not investing in Belgium.

72% of Belgium’s growth companies regard the shortage of personnel on our labour market as the primary constraint on their further development. Growth companies are responsible for a third of the new jobs in our country. In the next two years, these companies anticipate an overall growth in their employment figures of 25%. But just how they are going to fill these job openings appears to be the most difficult question at the moment. More than 6 out of 10 managers are asking for a more flexible labour market.
