A fantastic result!
In December 2008 Yves Fassin received the Emerald/EFMD Award for his doctoral thesis on business ethics, a subject that has been close to his heart for the past 25 years. In the Management and Governance category, Professor Fassin beat a cosmopolitan field of researchers (three Chinese, one Indian, one Slovenian and one Dane), thus highlighting the international prestige of the award. The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) also brings together Europe’s leading business schools. The award winner receives a cash prize of €1,500, a certificate and an offer of publication in the professional journal Management Decision.
“Doctoral research by someone with practical experience adds an extra dimension: a more synthesised, integrated approach and a combination of practical relevance and academic rigour,” explains supervisor Prof. Marc Buelens. “In his thesis, Yves develops a completely new version of the stakeholder model. He categorises stakeholders in a new way and introduces, for instance, the concept of stakeholder reciprocity.” When asked about the significance of the award for him personally, Yves commented: “It’s great that research work based on a practical approach has been recognised by the international research community in the fields of corporate social responsibility (CSR), ethics and stakeholder management. This award will act as a stimulus for me to pursue my empirical research at international level in collaboration with partners in other countries.”
