Belgian companies are great places to work
As
many as 11 companies in Belgium are ranked in the list of “100 Best Workplaces
in Europe” for 2009. This places Belgium in joint third position with Great
Britain, following Denmark with 17 companies in the top 100 and winner Germany
with 28 top companies. The national survey for Belgium was carried out by the
HRM Centre at Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School.
Although the scores of the average organisations in the study were lower than in 2008, the top organisations had actually increased employee satisfaction indicating that the economic crisis has been used as an opportunity to lead using a sustainable and qualitative policy. According to Palle Elleman, General Director of the Great Place to Work® Institute Europe, the ‘Great Place to Work®’ companies, in contrast to other companies, are growing faster, improving productivity, enjoying lower levels of absenteeism, being more innovative and receiving more job applications.
Five Special Awards
The Great Place to Work® Institute Europe also presents five special awards for companies that encourage trust, pride and camaraderie amongst employees. Again, Belgian companies have scored well with four Belgian companies being nominated for a special award.
The Great Place to Work® Institute
The “Great Place to Work®” list represents workplaces in 16 European countries. A top 100 of best workplaces is first produced for each country and the companies on these lists are then considered for inclusion on the European list.
