Most Wanted Companies 2009
In an
online survey from Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School and Vacature, 6,367
Belgians have chosen who they think are the Most Wanted Companies for 2009.
The results of the survey indicate that:
The Flemish and Walloons vote for quite different companies with only one company, GlaxoSmithKline, appearing on both lists. The Wallonian’s top list also includes aid organisations and NGOs whereas the Flemish list has none whatsoever.
The media branch is particularly favoured, despite the recent cuts in the sector, followed by government and pharmaceutical agencies. Sector visibility and good communication play large roles in improving a sector’s image but the age of the survey respondent is also a factor.
Job content and the atmosphere in the workplace were the defining criteria for a job being right for someone, with social engagement playing an additional factor in non-profit companies. Men and young workers rated career opportunities high up on their list of demands whereas women placed more importance on a healthy balance between work and private life.
