Running for a good cause
Bearing in mind the mission of corporate social responsibility, Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School was proud to sponsor for the fourth year in a row ‘Run for Africa’, an initiative of Vredeseilanden. The entire proceeds of this campaign go to sustainable agriculture projects for farmers in North and South.
The ‘Run for Africa’ takes place every year during the 20 km run through Brussels which was held on Sunday 31 May 2009. Both companies as well as individuals could join the Vredeseilanden team. The covered kilometres symbolise the distance between Belgium and the African countries. Thanks to the sponsorship money that is being raised by this run Vredeseilanden can continue its activities in Africa and the rest of the world. Last year a total amount of more than 111,000 euro was raised this way! This year 1429 people participated for Vredeseilanden. How much the Run for Africa will bring in this year will become clear in the coming months when all the sponsor money has been gathered.
Also 79 enthusiastic employees, professors and students of Vlerick ran under the flag of Vredeseilanden. Various companies agreed to sponsor them. In total 3,965 euro was raised, of which Vlerick sponsored 2,000 euro.
