Dries Hermans, PriceWaterhouseCoopers
Financial Controller

"The Executive Master Class in Controllership offers a unique opportunity to share information and insights with the professors and the other participants. The interaction in the group assignments and cases is enormously inspiring – and leads to a new approach towards day-to-day challenges. Add this to the interesting and wide selection of practice-oriented topics, and you get an enriching and practical learning experience that you benefit from for the rest of your career."

Dominique Agneesens

Dominique Agneesens, KBC Global Services
Controller Central & Eastern Europe & Russia

"In Belgium few possibilities are available on the market that cover all the aspects of our job in one global training module. The Vlerick Executive Master Class in Controllership bundles a wide range of aspects such as strategy review, cost allocations, performance measurements, process management and even coaching skills. All sessions were well balanced between theory and business cases. The business cases were pragmatic and high level. Discussing them in small groups, with participants that have different experiences from a variety of other business areas certainly provides added value. Don’t underestimate the workload of pre-readings, resolving cases and the in-company project, in combination with day-to-day work and family life. But as controllers, we know: a good investment takes time to become profitable!"

"By attending the intensive Executive Master Class in Controllership programme, I really experienced the great value of the Vlerick motto “We don’t teach – We develop what’s already inside you"! The training sessions were well organised, with an excellent mix of theory and case studies. The perfect combination of highly experienced classmates from a diverse range of businesses and of different ages, the outstanding professors and the brilliant guest speakers made this study an exciting and very unique learning experience for me."
Karin Van Heuverswyn

Karin Van Heuverswyn, Standaard Boekhandel
Finance Director

"Exchanging insights and interacting with highly skilled professors and participants from a variety of industries in an international environment brought out a wealth of experience. The ultimate challenge was the in-company project: as a district manager I follow up a number of retail stores and I look for opportunities for improvement."

  1. Strong growth in Belgian mergers and acquisitions market

2015 and the beginning of 2016 were characterised by a pronounced increase in the number of transactions in the Belgian mergers and acquisitions market. Demand is greater than supply, stimulated by easy and cheap access to finance and greater availability of financial resources to investment companies. Furthermore, the persistently low interest rate environment means there is increased interest from family investors, wealthy individuals and foreign private equity funds in Belgian medium-size enterprises. It is therefore not surprising that the prices paid are increasing across all sectors and business sizes. These are the findings from a survey of 142 Belgian mergers and acquisitions experts into their experiences over the past year.
  2. Family companies more open to private equity

‘Keep it in the family.’ The time-honoured motto of family companies has applied less and less in recent years, and that includes their funding. All around us we see increasing transparency and openness to the outside world, and family companies today are not immune to this. Recent research in cooperation with our Chair Partner Gimv provides a nuanced picture of family companies and their attitude to private equity.
