City Sights

Ranked 7th in the Lonely Planet’s top 10 must-see cities in 2011, Ghent combines the intimacy of a small town with the openness of a world city. Aside from that, the city scores high on Charles Landry’s Creative City Index. Ghent also has one of Europe’s most dynamic festival scenes, with festivals like the International Filmfestival, the Light Festival as well as the Gentse Feesten. De ‘Gentse Feesten’ is the biggest and most popular cultural festival in Europe with music, theatre, puppet players, street artists, etc. Want to know what’s going on in Ghent? Take a look at the event calendar on www.uitingent.be (Dutch website). You can find more information on the city of Ghent: www.visitgent.be. This is exactly why Ghent is mentioned as one of the 10 reasons why Belgium is not boring!

Settling In

Most students studying in Belgium rent a private room for the whole academic year. The best time of the year to start looking for housing is July-August. We advise you to come two weeks prior to the start of classes at the latest, as you will need time to adjust and find your way around in Ghent.

The best way to look for a room or apartment is simply by walking around the vicinity of the campus, looking for (orange) signs saying ‘te huur’ (= for rent). The price for a studio/apartment ranges between 300 and 450 euro/month. You can also try the following links to find a place:

Want to stay in a youth hostel while looking for accommodation? Contact Youth Hostel De Draecke - Sint-Widostraat 11, Gent - 09 233 70 50 - gent@vjh.be - www.vjh.be

ToiLetMeKnow, or how Hackathons can create opportunities
Date: 29 November 2016

The great thing about Vlerick is that it encourages you to participate in business games, case studies, and hackathons. Hacka-what, I hear you saying? A hackathon, in the traditional sense, is a rat-race, sprint-like competition in which software developers along with subject-matter-experts work on a disruptive project during a limited amount of time ranging from […]
