Previous editions - 2014
On 22 November 2014, 48 participants joined the first edition of the Vlerick M&A challenge.
All day long, participants of the Challenge had to analyze the public-to-private transaction of Hilton Hotels (2007) by Blackstone, and its initial public offering (IPO, or re-IPO) in 2013. Every team had to analyze the rationale behind the leveraged buyout (LBO) and as such assess opportunities and risks in this major private equity sponsored deal. Eventually, all groups had to summarize their findings and present their own perspective on this giant takeover in front of a jury of M&A (and private equity) professionals.
“I really enjoyed the entire day from the beginning to the end, everything was very well organized. Challenging task, interesting ambitious people, professional jury, valuable feedback.” Kristina Rylova (Masters in Business Economics)
“The essential take-away I got from this challenge, is the fact that no matter what you've learnt in theory or at school, the situation you'll face, will always be different with bundle of traps and ways to turn the things around.” Antoine Degavre (Masters in Business Management)
“I believe that the M&A Challenge is a first-hand experience of the day-to-day culture at Vlerick. It most definitely helped me forming my mind about my future studies and ambitions.” Alexandre Holvoet (Masters in Law)
