Investors in People

What is IiP?

Investors in People specialises in transforming business performance through people. Our mission is to help you achieve the results you want by focusing all our work on your business objectives and acting as a critical friend so that you maintain continuous improvement.

Investors in People (IiP) is a quality label for strategic HR. An organisation earns this label when it succeeds in matching the development of its people with the organisation’s objectives. Investors in People wants to structurally communicate and set organisational goals and structurally develop people to achieve these goals. The engagement and enthusiasm that Investors in People evokes among employees and managers, makes it an ideal tool to work with.

To match the development and objectives of employees, teams and the company as a whole; that is the starting point of Investors in People. That is why the continuous process of improvement of Investors in People does not limit itself to education and schooling. Investors in People helps organisations to communicate more effectively, to learn and develop, to manage effectively and to plan efficiently to come to one integrated improvement plan. The result is: a successful organisation with engaged and employable employees. Companies who have employees who support this success are those that can call themselves ‘Investors in People’.

How Does IiP Work?

At the heart of Investors in People is the Standard, an outcome-based framework that consists of 10 indicators. Companies are measured against these 10 themes inherent to an effective personnel management.

The indicators give an insight into the match between the ambitions and the goals of the organisation, the team and individual. It measures whether or not these are translated into developmental efforts. It is when they find the right balance between performance and development that organisations manage to get the best out of their people.

The IiP philosophy states that a personnel policy is one for the people within an organisation and of the people in an organisation. The two basic principles are:

  • IiP is about what people think and feel about the HR policy, not about the systems and procedures that the policy consists of.
  • The employees are the ones who indicated what needs to be improved and what are the biggest shortcomings of HR.

From Diagnosis to Certification

Investors in people offers organisations several steps to continuously improve:
  • Step 1: Preparation and communication
  • Step 2: The diagnostic
  • Step 3: Action!
  • Step 4: The assessment
Step 1: The Preparation and Communication

In this phase you get to know the Standard and the whole process of improvement. You get an impression to what extent you already are an Investors in People and what needs to be done in the future.

Step 2: The Diagnostic

Experience teaches us that people welcome the opportunity to get a say into the way their company can further professionalise by means of HR processes. They feel the organisation wants to move forward and that it wants to involve its employees. Investors in People is the perfect way to engage your employees and to make projects come alive!

An objective diagnostic, based on employees’ opinion, is crucial in an Investors in People project. The specialist makes sure the diagnostic is done objectively, independently and based on the specific needs and target groups of the organisation.

The specialist is responsible for the sample and makes sure a random, representative group of employees is involved in the diagnostic. Based on the gathered information a report is made that shows where your company meets the Investors in People standard and where it will have to take further action.

Step 3: Action!

This is the moment where your organisation gets to work with the conclusions of the diagnostic report. Important during this phase is to have the commitment from top and line management and employees from all layers.

During the development of the action plan forces from every employee will need to be united. That is why it is pivotal that every employees knows what the result of the diagnostic phase and the actions that came out of this.

Step 4: The Assessment - Is Your Organisation an Investor in People?

When your organisation is ready, you can be assessed and monitored during an IiP-assessment. An independent IiP-assessor will judge whether or not your company meets the standard and will give you some concrete tools and points of improvement which will give you something to work on: the process of improvement keeps going continuously.

Your specialist can guide you to the assessment and take up the points of improvement together with you. If everything went well, you can rightfully call yourself Investor in People. With this recognition you belong to the best employers in Belgium. The IiP-recognition can give you positive publicity and contribute to a differentiating position in the labour market.
