How do I burn a CD?

This FAQ file learns you how to burn files from your computer or the network to a CD-ROM.

1. Where can I burn a CD-ROM?

  • If you have a CD-writer installed in your computer, you can burn files to a CD from your computer.
  • Every secretariat has a CD-writer installed.
  • At the computer in the library (Ghent Campus - VLKDC010).
  • At the multimedia computer in the Leuven Campus.

2. How can I burn my files to a CD-ROM?

  1. If you do not have a CD-writer yourself, make sure your files are on the network
    (your personal share or group share) and log on to the computer.
  2. Insert a blank CD-ROM (available at the reception or at the library).
  3. Select the files/folders that you want to copy (use SHIFT to select multiple files).
  4. Click right on the selected files/folders that you want to put on the CD-ROM.
  5. Select Send To > CD-RW Drive.
     

  1. After the file copy is completed, you will see a pop-up at the right-corner
    (near your notification area/icon-bar). Click on this pop-up.

        If you have not clicked on it, go to your Windows Explorer and click on CD-RW drive.
 

  1. You will see your files there. (if you have a lot of files, it can take a while).
     The maximum capacity of a CD-ROM is 650 MB.
  2. Click File > Write these files to CD.
  3. You will get the following wizard leading you all the way.


3. How can I copy a CD-ROM?

  1. Select all the files on that CD-ROM and copy them to the following directory:

    C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning
     
  2. Replace the CD by a blank CD-ROM.
  3. Use Windows Explorer and click on your CD-writer. Paste your files again and select  File > Write these files to CD.
  4. A wizard will pop-up to lead you.
