How do I forward e-mail and inform the sender the e-mail is forwarded?

Description

This FAQ describes the steps you have to follow to automatically forward your e-mail to another e-mail address. The sender receives an e-mail to inform the message has been forwarded to another e-mail address.

Solution

  1. Start Outlook (icon on the desktop).

  2. Create the Rule with "Rules Wizard".
  3. Tools > Rules and Alerts > New Rule

  4. Window "Rules Wizard"
  5. Select  'Start from a blank rule';
    Select  'Check messages when they arrive';
    Select  'Next'.

  6. Do NOT select a condition (Rule applies to all incoming messages).
  7. Select 'Next'.

  8. Pop-up Window "Microsoft Outlook - This rule will be applied to every message you receive.  Is this correct?"
    Select  'Yes'.

  9. Window "Rules Wizard - What do you want to do with the message?"
    Select  'Forward it to people or distribution list'.


  10. Click in the lower window on "people or distribution list" and fill in the name(s) you want to forward to. You can choose an address from:
    • The global address lists
    • Contacts (if an external address, create it first in your contacts)
  11. Select  'Have server reply using a specific message'.
  12. Click in the lower window on "a specific message" and fill in a standard reply message.
    Leave the "from", "to" and "cc" fields empty.

  13. Select 'Next'
  14. Window 'Rules Wizard - Add any exceptions (if necessary)'.
  15. Select 'Next'.

  16. Window 'Rules Wizard - Please specify a name for this rule:'
    Fill in a name for the rule.
    Select (if desired)  'Run this rule now on messages already in "inbox"'.
    Select 'Turn on this rule'.
    Select 'Finish'.
