How can I recall or replace a message I have already sent?

Description

Have you sent a wrong e-mail to someone? Then you might want to use this FAQ file to have that e-mail recalled (this means deleted from the recipient's e-mail box) before the recipient has read it. You even have the choice to replace a recalled message immediately or to give no replacement at all.

It is very important to know that you can only recall or replace
those messages that you sent to recipients who:

  • are logged on now,
  • are using Outlook,
  • have not read the message,
  • have not moved the message out of their Inbox.

Solution

 

  1. Go to 'Sent Items'.
  2. Open the message you want to recall or replace.
  3. On the 'Actions' menu, click 'Recall This Message'.
  4. To recall the message, click 'Delete unread copies of this message'. To replace the message with another, click 'Delete unread copies and replace with a new message', click 'OK', and then type a new message.
  5. To be notified about the success of the recall or replacement for each recipient, select the 'Tell me if recall succeeds or fails for each recipient' check box.
