2. Calendar
Make sure your holiday is indicated in your online calendar in Outlook.
3. Backup
It is an excellent idea to make sure your most crucial data
is on your
network share or on CD-ROM.
More info:

a CD?
Best practices to backup and store your files
4. Power & Energy saving
- Please turn off your pc.
- If you use a portable, unplug the power supply on both sides (pc & mains). This will also make it easier to put your portable in a safe place (not on your desk).
- Unplug all other power consuming devices (extra heating device, paper shredder, power supplies,...)
- Turn off the heating in your office.
5. Security
- Please inform security about all irregularities.
- Lock door and windows of your office.
- Close curtains if available
- If you use a portable and you do not take it home:
hand it in to IT.
- If you take your pc home make sure you also take the power supply, external floppy drive, power cable, etc with it.
- Make sure you have your lock and key with you. If you do not have a lock yet, go to the helpdesk: it is free and on stock.
- Do not take your portable home if you do not plan to use it. Rather hand it in to IT.
- PDAs, digital cameras etc: do not leave them on your desk.
- Access to the building Campus Ghent
- Please use your access badge at the main entrance to enter the building. This door is always accessible 24/7 with your access badge.
- For deliverables and bringing large things into the building please use the door in the Notarisstraat 9a.
- Please inform security services of your presence in the building during holidays by calling 0475 / 22 42 52 or announce yourself at the reception desk.
- Access to the building Campus Leuven
- Please use your access badge at the main entrance to enter the building. This door is always accessible 24/7 with your access badge.
- Please inform security services of all irregularities in the building during holidays by calling 0499 / 53 84 94.
6. E-mail
It is also a good idea to clean your mailbox. More info: e-mail FAQ
7. Antivirus
- Make sure you have the most recent update on your PC.
- Review the Virus scanner checklist.
- Also check your home computer.
8. Out-Of-Office message
- Use these tips to create a useful Out-Of-Office message.
- Please note: the standard Out-Of-Office is sent only to Vlerick people.
- You can use custom Out-Of-Office messages to send to non-Vlerick people.
9. Electronic Greeting Cards
- Normally it is fun to receive them, but there are dangerous variants too.
- As always: if you receive an attachment of
someone you do not know personally,
DO NOT OPEN IT !
- Even if you know the sender, be extremely careful when opening attachments.
10. Helpdesk
- Please use Altiris to submit your problems: http://www.vlerick.be/helpdesk (Also available out of campus)
- For really urgent matters, please send your mail to:
mailto:helpdesk@vlerick.be
or phone to +32 9 210 97 24. - Please do not send calls to individual mailboxes of ICT Team members.
11. Clean desk
Holidays are a good moment for cleaning up your desk.
- put all valuable things away (includes portable, digital camera, ...)
- bring old or unused ICT material (hardware and software) to the ICT
Service Desk at
Campus Ghent, M+3.12 or Campus Leuven, C2.08
12. Kitchenettes
May we ask you to empty all personal beverages and food from the small
refrigerators.
This gives the cleaning team and Sodexho a chance to thoroughly clean the
kitchenettes.
13. While cleaning up
- CD-ROMs have a better shelf life on condition that they are properly stored:
- Put them into a protecting sleeve or jewel case, do not expose them to direct sunlight or heat.
- They contain your valuable data: put them in a safe place.
We wish you all a nice holiday!
