1. What is sending email on behalf of

Some people have access to a generic mailbox and want to send an email in name of this generic mailbox.  At Vlerick it is not possible to send a mail direct from the generic mailbox.  The only possible way is sending an email "on behalf of" that mailbox.  In this way, the originator is always known.

2. How can I send an email on behalf of

  • add the mailbox to your outlook as an additional mailbox.  How? see Vlerick FAQ: How do I add an additional mailbox in outlook
  • Check if you have rights to send email on behalf of the additional mailbox.  If you do not have sufficient rights, the mail will not be accepted by the mail server.  Make an helpdesk call for additional rights
  • In Outlook, create a new mail message
  • If the from field is available, type in the name of the mailbox you want sending email on behalf of.

  • If the from field is not available, select it

    View | From Field

  • Finish your mail message and send it.

3. How does the recipient see the mail message

  • The recipients receive an email with the name of the additional mailbox as originator.

  • If the recipient opens the email, your name is displayed as originator
