Brecht Cardoen

Brecht Cardoen benadrukt in zijn werk het belang van visualisatie en het gebruik van modellen om complexe processen te analyseren en zo tot gevalideerde en geïntegreerde beslissingen te komen. Naar zijn mening is decision sciences veeleer een vaardigheid dan kennis, zodat het toepassingsveld heel breed wordt. Brecht werkt samen met verschillende bedrijven en instellingen om de impact van kwantitatieve beleidsmethoden te illustreren op actuele projecten: van het groeperen van laag-radioactief afval voor veilige oppervlakteberging tot het efficiënt plannen van operaties in de operatiezalen van ziekenhuizen.

Profiel

Brecht Cardoen is assistant professor in Service Operations Management aan Vlerick Business School en een Research Fellow aan de faculteit voor Economie en Bedrijfskunde van KU Leuven. Hij behaalde zijn doctoraat in de Toegepaste Economische Wetenschappen aan KU Leuven waarbij hij de impact van optimalisatietechnieken in het operatiekwartier van ziekenhuizen bestudeerde (2009). In 2012 was Brecht gastprofessor aan University of Cambridge Judge Business School, UK.

Zijn lesactiviteiten richten zich voornamelijk op decision sciences, managementintegratie en bedrijfsstatistiek. Hij doceert in master-, MBA- en executive-programma’s aan de Gent, Leuven, Brussel en Sint-Petersburg campussen van Vlerick Business School, maar ook in Peking (Beijing International MBA Alliance – Peking University). Verder doceert hij in de Executive Master Class in Supply Chain Management en de Executive Master Class in Business Process Management, en in Management voor de Ziekenhuisprofessional, waarvan hij de programmadirecteur is.

Zijn onderzoeksinteresses zijn gericht op optimalisatietoepassingen binnen de dienstensector, met een bijzondere interesse in gezondheidszorg en ziekenhuizen. Hij leidt MINOZ, een onderzoekscentrum voor operationeel onderzoek in ziekenhuizen, en is verantwoordelijk voor de Vlerick Healthcare Management Day. Verder is Brecht ook één van de aanstuurders van het Healthcare Supply Chain Research Network en staat hij open voor gericht contractonderzoek. Zijn werk is gepubliceerd in verschillende internationale academische tijdschriften. Binnen deze context is hij ook lid van de redactieraad van ‘Operations Research for Healthcare'.
