Karolien Dekoster obtained a Master degree in Philosophy at the KULeuven and a Master in General Management at Vlerick Business School. After obtaining an additional Master of Comparative, International and European Politics at the KULeuven, she returned to Vlerick as a research associate. Building on her unique background, she currently conducts research in the field of negotiations (NQ® Negotiation Intelligence) and conflict management, together with Prof. Dr. Katia Tieleman and Prof. Dr. David Venter. Through this Negotiation Intelligence (NQ®) approach, developed by Prof. Dr. Katia Tieleman, individual, team and company negotiation capabilities are screened and the concepts and tools to boost individual and organisational negotiation and cooperation capabilities are provided. As such clients are assisted in the development of their personal skills and their organisational strengths, and are supported whilst brokering agreements, to maximise their influence to develop common ground within and across organisations, and to use diversity and complexity to their advantage. Next to her current research, Karolien also has a strong interest in energy and climate change negotiations, with an emphasis on U.S legislation and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
