Vitae
Elisabeth Van Laere obtained her Master's degree in Applied Economics magna cum laude from Ghent University, Belgium, in 2002. She joined the Department of Corporate Finance at Ghent University and the Competence Centre of Accounting and Finance at the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School in September 2002. During the first years Elisabeth has conducted research in the area of mergers and acquisitions, small business finance and private equity. In addition, she has been teaching courses on financial statement analysis at the bachelor level.
In January 2005, Elisabeth decided to join the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School on a full-time basis. Her activities include research, executive teaching and developing new initiatives in the area of corporate finance (Vlerick CFO-Club, Master Class in Corporate Finance, Vlerick Finance Academy). In October 2006 she started her PhD on capital regulation of financial institutions, the role of ratings and the tension field between regulation and economic reality.
She has written several policy reports and scientific articles in various areas of corporate finance. Her current research interests include capital regulation, Basel II, internal and external ratings, credit risk, credit rationing and small and medium-sized firm financing.
