Meet the Dean

Professor Marion Debruyne was appointed Dean of Vlerick Business School on 1 August 2015.

Upon her appointment as Dean, Roch Doliveux, Chairman of Vlerick Business School, said: “Marion brings impressive credentials, amazing energy, solid international experience and mind-set, and deep understanding of the Vlerick Spirit.”

Prof Debruyne’s experience at Vlerick includes the position of Professor of Marketing Strategy & Innovation since 2005 and Partner of the School since 2008. She has also served as Director of Vlerick’s Master’s degree programmes, and she was elected to Vlerick’s Board of Directors in 2014. Before Vlerick, she was on the faculty of the Goizueta Business School, Emory University. She also held positions as visiting scholar at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.

Passionate about the strategic side of innovation and the innovative side of strategy, Prof Debruyne helps companies think about how to respond to changing markets and escape commoditisation by adapting their product line, marketing strategy and, ultimately, their business model. Her book Customer Innovation won the 2015 CMI Management Book of the Year Award in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship category. She is uniquely skilled at translating academic insights into the requirements of clients and companies, and she has extensive experience with a wide variety of business sectors.

Prof Debruyne holds a degree in Chemical Engineering (UGent), a Masters in Marketing Management (Vlerick Business School), and a PhD in Applied Economics (UGent).

As Dean of Vlerick Business School, Prof Debruyne succeeds retiring Dean Philippe Haspeslagh to carry the School forward on its international journey.
