Arcadis signs Knowledge Partnership to activate digital leadership

Julien Cayet - ArcadisArcadis is a global design & consultancy firm for natural and built assets. “We are a people company: our 27,000 bright minds are our main asset today. But if we want to continue to flourish in the digital era, we need to embrace data wholeheartedly – and that requires a new bag of tricks.”

Julien Cayet, Chief Digital Officer at Arcadis, sits alongside Professor Stijn Viaene in the Arcadis offices in Amsterdam. He’s thrilled about the Knowledge Partnership that Arcadis and Vlerick Business School recently signed: “We’re no strangers. In January 2017, I enrolled with my team for Stijn’s Digital leadership programme and we immediately had a spark. Up to now, 20 people from Arcadis have taken part in this leadership training. And we’re even planning to intensify our training efforts to activate and accelerate digital leadership worldwide. So, with this partnership we want to take our interest in digital leadership one step further by engaging in research on this topic over the coming four years.”

“Intense sparring partner”

Stijn Viaene - Vlerick Business SchoolProfessor Stijn Viaene nods: “This partnership came about in a very organic way. During the programme, Arcadis proved to be an intense sparring partner on digital transformation. There are no fixed recipes for grounding digital transformation in an organisation. It takes learning by doing and the involvement of partners to accelerate the learning curve. We are honoured to have been chosen as one of those partners. By collaborating with frontrunners like Arcadis, we can co-create knowledge and help identify generic patterns of how to accelerate digital transformation. This partnership with Arcadis is the perfect example of how we like to do research at Vlerick Business School: turning action into knowledge and knowledge into action.”

NEW! Fund a PhD track as a Knowledge Partner

Arcadis was the first company to opt for our new Knowledge Partnership formula: by funding a PhD track (supported by a faculty member, in this case Professor Viaene), Arcadis enjoys the privilege of a one-to-one research relationship with a PhD student.
Research Dean Filip Roodhooft: “With this new formula, we want to meet the increasing need of companies to jointly interact on a topic that is relevant to their business and that results in output they can immediately use in their day-to-day activities. For Vlerick, the ‘win’ lies in the opportunity to do research in a field that is relevant to our stakeholders and society as a whole.”
