The Happy Workout

“Working = fun at UNILIN”

What started out in mid-2015 as an idea for a recruitment campaign grew into a tradition at UNILIN. Communication Specialist Kathy Callens tells us how The Happy Workout has come to be firmly embedded into the company’s identity.

Ideal framework

“Our company culture is based on four pillars, namely passion, entrepreneurship, excellence and respect”, Kathy Callens explains. “These are not empty words, they convey the very essence of the UNILIN spirit. What’s more, working at UNILIN is fun, more than anything else. Besides numerous campaigns addressing aspects such as health and safety, personal development and a pleasant working environment, we organise events and activities that are lots of fun and build team spirit. When an external agency presented the idea of The Happy Workout in 2015 within the context of a recruitment campaign, we immediately knew that we should elaborate on this. The concept offered an ideal framework that could serve as a backbone, so to speak, for our values, as well as our campaigns and activities. We then proceeded to develop a logo and a policy for The Happy Workout, which was launched with a catchy video. We claimed the logo, both internally and externally.”

For everybody

“Our people are the heart of our success, and this is why we are always looking for ways to make them happier. Because happiness is not the same for everybody, we offer a mix of activities that we add to our Happy Workout calendar. More active individuals can participate in sports initiatives, such as cycling or mountain biking tours, marathons, and so on. For others, we have tickets to the Samson & Gert Christmas Show, or a football game, or a cycling race. Our child-care during school holidays is also highly appreciated. But there is even more: just think of our participation in the Tournée Minérale campaign to cut down on alcohol, or our Happy Workout Coffee Corner. This is so much more than just somewhere to get a cup of coffee. It is a small shop where you will find home-made soup, breakfast, fruit, smoothies and much more – in addition to special coffees – and where people meet to exchange ideas. It is a place where they feel at home – which is precisely the essence of The Happy Workout,’ concludes Kathy Callens.

Kathy Callens, Communication Specialist at Unilin: “Our Happy Workout Coffee Corner is a place where you can meet your colleagues from other departments, gather inspiration and feel at home.”
