Getting started

Belgium is one of the easiest countries to relocate to. It has a multi-lingual population, vibrant expat community, and international schools. Bearing in mind that, moving to another country and getting settled is challenging, the school is happy to provide support if necessary. Our professional staff in the Human Resources department and our Faculty Services Coordinator offer a range of services to the faculty members joining us from abroad.

  • advice on taxation,
  • advice on the social security system and health care system in Belgium,
  • guidance and support in applying for a work permit, a visa, residence permit, etc
  • guidance and support in finding housing, child care, schools, etc
  • guidance and support in getting settled in Belgium, e.g. how to open a bank account, etc

Moreover we work with an external relocation offer to support you with your move.

  • The school provides a budget to cover the expenses related to moving your personal belongings to Belgium.
  • Furthermore, the school offers the opportunity for introductory follow courses on Belgian culture and the languages of Belgium. A budget is also provided to cover the cost of one trip per year to the home country for all family members.
  • Upon arrival Vlerick professors receive an access card from one of our parent universities, which offers a broad range of services, access to sport facilities, university libraries and university restaurants.
