Key insights from KBC Group’s M&A strategy

KBC Group was created 20 years ago as a result of the merger of three companies: Kredietbank, CERA and insurer ABB Verzekeringen.  With its 38,000 employees, serving more than 10 million customers in Belgium, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia and Ireland, the KBC Group today is one of the best performing banks in Europe.  However, the journey was not always that easy − and its M&A strategy helped considerably.  In order to cope with the banking crisis − and aspiring to become the reference in banking and insurance − KBC Group gradually sold off 32 companies, including: KBL, Centea, Fidea and its Russian branch Absolut Bank Johan Thijs KBC

During his keynote speech, CEO Johan Thijs will highlight the importance of those divestments for KBC and their contribution to the bank’s performance. Mr Thijs will also share his experiences − and highlight his personal learnings − in these transactions.

A panel of experts, with a.o. Christel Van den Eynden (Liedekerke)Koen Dejonckheere (GIMV), Hans Buysse (Vlerick) will comment and debate. Marc Cosaert (EY) and Wim De Vilder (VRT) will moderate the debate, and a networking reception will close the evening.

This evening is a must for business owners, board members, CEOs and MBI/MBO candidates who want to gain more insight into take-overs/divestments and learn from the M&A experience of leading companies.
