Nowadays, terms like ‘big data’ and ‘artificial intelligence’ create the impression that management’s strategic decisions can be made from purely rational and technocratic-economic considerations. But when firms face scandals and failures, one question is always central: why did the CEO not envisage this outcome and thus made a wrong decision?

One possible answer can be found in the role that human cognition plays in decision-making. CEOs are human beings and so – just like all of us – they are limited to bounded rationality. Analysing the role of cognition in decision-making should help you better understand:

  • Why it is so difficult to make good decisions
  • The ideal type of decision-making
  • Possible biases and mistakes we all make in our daily decision-making
  • How to avoid these mistakes in decision-making

At the end of this keynote presentation, you should be able to better understand your and your business partners’ decision-making, and thus make better decisions – or just not regret the wrong decisions too much…

  • 6 - 6.30 PM: Welcome
  • 6.30 PM: Introduction by Prof Dirk Buyens, Director Executive Education
  • 6.45 - 8 PM: Keynote by Prof Kerstin Fehre, Professor in Strategy
  • 8 - 10 PM: International networking reception

During this Vlerick evening you also have the opportunity to exchange views with Vlerick programme advisors, and meet and network with expats who share a common interest in Vlerick Business School.
