The hardest thing about starting a business is actually starting it.

When he was about 6 years old, his family and teachers told him he was very good at explaining things − so Louis Jonckheere (Masters in General Management, 2009) dreamed of becoming a lawyer.

When he grew older, he did in fact study law − but he developed a business sense, and a talent for entrepreneurship, as well. His law studies left him feeling that he still had only vague notions of concepts like Marketing, Finance and HR. That’s where his Vlerick MGM programme came in: “After a year at Vlerick,” he says, “you really understand business.”

In 2011, Louis co-founded Showpad: a company that helps organisations activate their content to accelerate their business and elevate their brand. As about a third of Showpad’s revenue comes from the US, Louis is currently managing the US business from his office in San Francisco.

He found the Vlerick environment very stimulating for an entrepreneur: “Vlerick generates a lot of good entrepreneurs, and I wanted to be part of that.

Key message:
“The hardest thing about starting a business is actually starting it. A lot of people hesitate to take the risk − but if they do, really big things can emerge!”
