The true heart of Europe

Brussels is a melting pot of different cultures with international companies as well as the EU institutions bringing people together from all over the world. This means that there is a wide range of cultural and social activities on offer throughout the year. Brussels is a vibrant and dynamic city and is home to around 74.000 students. French is the most widely spoken language but English is also understood and spoken.

If ever a city could claim split personality, it’s Brussels, according to the Lonely Planet: "French versus Flemish, historic versus hip, bizarre versus boring. Full of contrasts, contradictions and intrigue, this is a multicultural equation that goes much deeper than just red tape and Eurocrats. Brussels is a city of fine food, café culture, Art Nouveau architecture and the surreal."

This cosmopolitan city spoils its visitors with numerous tourist attractions: parks, museums, cultural events, shops, cafés and restaurants, from the trendy Dansaert area to the chic Zavel and popular Marollen districts. With the presence of various colleges and universities, it will be no surprise to learn that Brussels also has a lively student scene.
