Detailed Programme

The online programme 'From Idea to Health Business' is split into three building blocks:

One: Healthcare innovation – why is it so different?
At the beginning of the programme, you’ll gain valuable insight into the fundamental aspects of healthcare innovation that will help boost your chances of entrepreneurial success. You’ll discover the key stages in the healthcare innovation journey – from invention to commercialisation – and explore the challenges of bringing a new health idea to market. And you’ll take inspiration from how other technology has been adopted.

Two: Making your idea customer-focused
This stage is all about putting the patient or end-user at the heart of your business plan – and why this is so important. You’ll assess the value of your idea and consider it from a patient’s perspective – how will it benefit them? What need does it meet? You’ll learn how to identify unaddressed needs in the sector – and the tools you need to turn this knowledge into a relevant, sustainable offer.

Three: Business modelling in healthcare
This final stage looks about how you can create value for the health sector – and how you can capture this value. You’ll identify the best business model to take your idea to market. You’ll evaluate your innovation and the benefits it offers users – and you’ll discover how to articulate these benefits when you’re presenting to potential partners or funding sources.

Vlerick expertise in Healthcare Management

  1. Medicines: how much should they cost?

Although medical progress is allowing us to treat more and more diseases, innovative medicines tend to be expensive. Expenses are rising constantly in the healthcare sector as a result, putting accessibility and affordability under pressure. Which criteria does the Belgian Commission for Reimbursement of Medicines apply and what could be improved? These questions are answered in a study based on RIZIV data, in the framework of the Roche Chair at the Vlerick Healthcare Management Centre.
  2. Flexible working in hospitals: how to make it a success

Flexible working is all the rage these days, and hospitals can't escape the trend either. The white paper ‘Flexible working in hospitals: OM and HRM perspective’ by our MINOZ research centre is the fruit of last year's efforts. It examines what flexible working means for the organisation and the employee, how the two perspectives can be brought into balance and which forms of flexible working are relevant for hospitals. Illustrated with practical examples, it offers food for thought for organisations which would like to introduce flexible working themselves.
