Previous editions - 2016

On 19 November 2016, 78 participants joined the 3d edition of the M&A Challenge!

The Case

This year's case was all about Game of thrones!  On October 22, 2016, AT&T announced it had entered into a definitive agreement under which it will acquire Time Warner in a stock-and-cash transaction valued at $107.50 per share, or $ 85.4 billion. Its stock price declined by more than 10% since rumours about a possible tie-up started to circulate. Participants had to evaluate deal motives, assess possible synergies, judge the proposed deal financing and shed light on potential antitrust concerns. The day ended with group presentations containing an in-depth critical deal analysis in front of a jury consisting of M&A professionals.

The Experience

"The M&A challenge gave me a first practical experience in the M&A field. It also gave me an idea of what it's like to work in an international team and what can be achieved in a cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary group during one day. The feedback we received from practitioners on the group performance was very useful for our professional future."   Y. G. (Germany, Masters in Business Administration)

"In general, I wanted to learn about the topic of M&A and the Vlerick approach towards learning, which I surely did. It was also a unique opportunity to challenge myself with likeminded peers and to put my accumulated theoretical knowledge into practice in order to solve a real life case: The Acquisition of Time Warner by AT&T.  I’ll always remember the presentation of our findings before the jury of M&A professionals and our synergistic group." Jeroen Devrome (Belgium, Masters in Business Engineering)
