Management control in the context of inter-organizational co-creation

Thomas Decorte

What was my dream when I was little?

Ever since I was little, I have always been fascinated with history. Especially the Middle Ages and the time of the Roman Empire always captivated my imagination. As a child I dreamed about becoming an archaeologist and discovering new and intriguing aspects of history. I believe this childhood dream is where my interest in research originated from.

What am I doing when I am not working on my PhD?

In my spare time I love to go cycling, running, spending time with family or friends and travelling. These activities give me a nice balance and clear mind to work on my PhD.

What is my PhD about?

My PhD is about management control in the context of inter-organizational co-creation. More specifically I will investigate how management control influences the innovation and creativity in collaborative partnerships.

Why is this important for practice?

A creative and innovative idea or solution is a crucial part of almost every company’s success story. Today there is a trend towards collaborative partnerships where firms combine their knowledge, expertise and experience to join forces and come up with creative and innovative solutions. The creativity in this partnership needs to be stimulated and is crucial for the end result. However, these joint activities also need to be controlled, coordinated and monitored. Therefore, how management control affects this creative collaboration between firms is very interesting for managers and the business environment as a whole.

How do I like to be remembered after my PhD?

I would like to be remembered as someone who is hard-working, helpful to others and passionate about what he does.

How do I see my future?

I do not yet know whether I will stay in academia or go into the business world. However, I would like to keep on learning and challenging myself on a daily basis to grow as a person.
