VLERICK EXPAT EVENT

Dances with wolves
A new look on managing intercultural conflict
Give your career new inspiration during your stay in Belgium and join the Vlerick Expat Event at Vlerick Campus Brussels on 19 November!
The keynote address ‘Dancing with wolves - a new look on managing intercultural conflict’ given by Smaranda Boros and Ralf Wetzel - 2 inspiring Vlerick Professors - will certainly give you food for thought as it sets a vibrant, congenial tone for this unique expat evening.
Conflict management at its best is an art as skilful and difficult to master as dancing to unfamiliar rhythms. We must constantly be ‘in the flow’ and mindful towards ourselves and, especially, our dance partner. Because conflict management is a collaborative enterprise, in which action and reaction to the other party are part of a delicate – and sometimes intricate – process. And this is never more apparent than in intercultural settings, where the basic ‘beats’ to which each party responds can be as different as night and day.
So, how to handle all these complexities in a gracious yet effective way?
In this session, we look at frames (old and new) and practice together, with the help of improvisational theatre techniques, some ‘conflict management moves’ that will turn you into a smooth dancer on the floor of intercultural interactions.
