You’ve got ambition! You have a clear picture of where you want to be. And you’re champing at the bit to realise your full potential. Well, if the only way is up, then we recommend you first take a look at the tips and links below.

  1. Get insights

1. Get insights

You’re doing everything right at work. You’re getting – and even taking – good advice and your results speak for themselves. But for some reason, you’re just not advancing up the ladder. Why? Susan Colantuono offers some surprising answers to this omnipresent question. And while it’s primarily aimed at women in the workforce, her insights are universal.

It’s only when you know your true potential that you will find meaningful ways to unleash it on the world. Ask yourself, “what are my strengths?”, “what really motivates me?”, “what am I good at?”, “what are my values?” and “what do I really want to achieve?”. You might find that your next big career jump has been staring you in the face all along!

Check out these interesting personality and career tests. They’ll help you find out what makes you, you… and what career paths will help turn those qualities into personal and professional success.

2. Make a plan

Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years? We’ve all been asked the question at job interviews. But have you ever actually tried to formulate a concrete answer and put it on paper? Now would be a good time! Clearly define your ambitions. But also, be realistic about your expectations and timelines. And above all, write down the specific actions you need to take to achieve your goals.

3. Go back to school

Advancing your career often means sharpening and even acquiring a whole new skillset. Think about what knowledge, skills and/or experience might be blocking your progress and what gaps to fill in order to achieve your career development goals. And before you say you’re too busy with the present to invest in your future, there is a plethora of online courses out there along with weekend and evening seminars. You might even want to think about working towards a new degree at a school that offers more flexible online programmes. Like Vlerick, for instance.

And if you need help finding the ideal course or programme for your needs, don’t be shy! Our Programme Advisor is just an e-mail or phone call (+ 32 9 210 98 84) away.
