Detailed Programme

This five-day programme consists of a pre-programme webinar followed by some intensive preparatory work before the start of the programme. This preparatory work is included in the programme days and entails the completion of your individual 360° feedback process as well as a strategic exercise you will be asked to prepare with your executive team. This way we can focus during the three-day core modules on the application of the taught frameworks and theory to your specific business challenges. A follow-up module (0.5 day) is included to provide a sounding board for your team on the strategic and leadership decisions and actions taken.

  • Before you start: 360 feedback process
Before the programme begins, you will go through a 360 feedback process. During this pre-programme webinar, Prof Katleen De Stobbeleir will present Vlerick’s leadership framework and provide you with all practical details to successfully run your 360 feedback process.

  • Module I: creating and executing successful business strategies
Armed with Professor Kurt Verweire’s toolkits and frameworks, you’ll enter into facilitated discussions on your company’s strategy. These lead you to create a focussed and differentiated strategy. You’ll then move on to finding the best ways to implement it.

  • Module II: playing to your strengths
Guided by a professional Vlerick coach, you’ll discuss ways to improve the dynamics of your team – and you’ll reflect on your own leadership style, challenges and opportunities.

  • Module III: change management: making it happen
To make change happen, you need to understand how people are likely to react to it. Professor Peter De Prins will take you on a journey into the physchological dynamics of change.

  • Module IV: integration and sounding board
Goal of this integration day is to bring your executive team to a next level. Our experts will challenge your team's action plan and serve as a sounding board for your company's strategic and leadership challenges. We will kick off this afternoon session with some general lessons learned and tips and tricks. This will be complemented with individual sounding board moments per executive team by our faculty.

Belgian chocolates are world famous. Together with Switzerland, Belgium is internationally known as the country of chocolates. Belgian chocolatiers win many international awards. Belgium is also the largest chocolate exporter in the world, exporting over 1 billion € of the sweet stuff every year. Based on very detailed export data in the period 1998-2010, researchers Filip Abraham, Zuzanna Studnicka and Jan Van Hove unravel the DNA of Belgian chocolate exporting firms and identify the factors that drive their export strategies.
  2. Distance matters

If General Motors’ headquarters had been in Belgium, Opel Antwerp would not have been closed. Or would it? Why are managers more reluctant to downsize nearby affiliates than distant ones? Vlerick Professor Filip Abraham, together with researchers at the KU Leuven, investigated whether decisions to downsize taken by multinationals are affected by the geographical distance between headquarters and subsidiaries. Their results were published in a paper entitled “Staying Home or Moving Away? Restructuring Efforts within Multinational Enterprises”.
