Why this programme?

Operations management can directly influence your organisation’s success – or failure. It’s a complex function that not only affects manufacturing or service delivery but also impacts R&D, sales, marketing and finance.

This programme gives you an understanding of operational challenges and how you can turn them into positives. You’ll learn to recognise the value and importance of operational excellence – and to identify opportunities to improve processes across your organisation.

Detailed programme

The programme is divided into six modules. Each one focuses on a different aspect of operations management:

Module 1: Process analysis

When we talk about operations, we mean all the processes that happen every day across an organisation. So how can we improve this everyday work? This module introduces you to operational metrics that can measure how effective processes are through flow time, throughput rate and inventory.

Module 2: Process improvement – lean operations

There are many ways to improve process. This module focuses on lean operations – how you can reduce and eliminate waste. You’ll explore all the processes lean thinking can be applied to – from production through to administration – and you’ll assess operational excellence practices in your own organisation.

Module 3: Inventory management

To get the most from operations and supply chain management, you need to find the optimal mix of inventories, costs, assets and revenues. On this module, you’ll dive into inventory management, sales forecasting and operations planning. These can help to reduce lead time and inventory – and turn your operations and supply chain into engines for profitable growth.

Module 4: How digital impacts the supply chain

Digital technology can help you transform your supply chain into a truly smart chain. This module introduces you to the technology that’s shaping the way we do business – and sets out how you can use it to help your organisation become more resilient.

Module 5: Conclusion

This final module focuses on what you’ve learned throughout the programme – and how you plan to use your new knowledge and skills in the future.

This online journey brings together learning formats including videos, simulations, exercises, quizzes, case studies and real-life examples. You’ll also have background reading to do and questions to help you reflect on your own experience.

In addition, you’ll take part in projects – giving you the opportunity to put theory into practice and become confident at analysing your organisation’s operations.

You can start Essentials in Operations at any time – and study wherever and whenever suits you. It takes 10 to 12 hours to complete the programme and you can split this time over a maximum of three months.

For whom?

Whatever your area of expertise is – whether it’s marketing, finance, HR or legal – your organisation’s operational challenges and opportunities affects you and your role. Which means this programme is for all professionals who want to be able to make a positive impact on operations management in their organisations.
