David Patient is Professor of Leadership in the People & Organizations area at Vlerick Business School. David has a law degree from the University College London, and an MBA and PhD from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on managerial communication, effective teams, leadership, and employee motivation, and often investigates the causes and consequences of workplace fairness in different contexts.

David’s research has been published in top academic journals, including Journal of Management, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Studies, and Journal of Organizational Behavior.

From 2006 to 2019, David was a Professor in Organizational Behavior at CATÓLICA-LISBON in Portugal, where his roles included Associate Dean for Research, and Academic Director of several programs, including the Lisbon MBA and the Management MSc programs. David focuses his teaching on executive audiences, and on topics relating to leadership, managerial communication, power and influence, and group and individual decision making. He has designed, coordinated, and taught in numerous open and custom executive programs, including for international clients such as Websummit and Sands China Casinos.

From 2016 to 2019, David served a three-year term as an elected Representative-at-Large on the Board of Governors of the 20,000-member Academy of Management, the leading international organization for management scholarship.
