Vlerick MBA in Financial Services and Insurance launches new module in Mexico

Starting this Autumn, Vlerick’s MBA in Financial Services and Insurance (MBA-FSI) will add a new module conducted in Mexico City. This specialised executive MBA programme for professionals from the banking, insurance and investment sectors will now comprise 6 residential modules (each 2 weeks long) spread over a period of 22 months. Each module immerses the MBA-FSI participants in the context of a different financial market via a dynamic and international mix of academic content, cases, simulations, company visits and key speakers from the business world.

The first module is held in Belgium (Ghent and Brussels) in November. The participants then head to Switzerland (Zurich), Canada (Montreal and Toronto) and China (Peking). The new module in Mexico (Mexico City) runs from 12 - 24 January 2014, and then the programme is completed in the USA (Boston and New York).

Jonathan De Grande, MBA-FSI Programme Manager: “The Latin American market is undergoing strong growth in the area of financial services. Foreign companies that want to establish themselves in this market must overcome a number of challenges. That’s why we’ve decided to add a new module in Mexico to the programme. For the organisation of the module, we can rely on the collaboration of ITAM, our Mexican module partner.

“Via this new module, we want to offer participants insight into the particular market circumstances, the cultural differences and the different way of doing business in Latin America. We’re planning talks by local guest speakers and company visits to both local companies and foreign players active in Mexico. The new module also adds to the further internationalisation of the MBA-FSI programme as well as of the School itself.

Collaboration with ITAM

For the organisation of the Mexico module, the MBA-FSI programme has entered into a partnership with ITAM (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México). Founded in 1946, this business school has stood for years in the top 5 MBA programmes in Latin America, a ranking issued by the authoritative Latin American business magazine America Economía. ITAM’s two fully equipped campuses south of Mexico City offer a total of 11 programmes on a full-time or part-time basis. ITAM is also a member of the prestigious Partnership in International Management (PIM), an organisation that unites 57 Business Administration programmes throughout the world.

Given that few high-quality asset management programmes are offered in the Benelux region, Vlerick Business School, Degroof-Petercam and Candriam have joined forces to fill the gap. With additional support from partners AG Insurance and Belfius Investment Partners, and with the support of Beama (the Belgian Asset Management Association), a brand new and highly practical programme that will cover all aspects of asset management is due to start in mid-April.
