    Professor Philippe Haspeslagh’s Electrolux case study is ranked in fourteenth place in the top 40 best-selling cases of The Case Centre, an international not-for-profit organisation that promotes the case teaching method worldwide. To mark its 40th anniversary, The Case Centre compiled a list of the 40 best-selling cases worldwide from its foundation in 1973 to the present day. Philippe is delighted with this recognition: "The fact that my case is on this list means that many other lecturers use my material. It also proves that the management challenge in this case has stood the test of time and continues to be just as relevant today."

  7. How mature is your demand forecasting process?

    Statistical forecasting models are becoming increasingly sophisticated and software is readily available to support the forecasting process, yet surveys show that in only 25% of cases, demand forecasts are based exclusively on statistical models; 75% of the time they are the result of human judgement alone (25%), a statistical model adjusted by the forecaster(s) (33%) or an average of statistical and judgemental forecasts (17%). Human judgement therefore plays an important role. But how does it impact on forecasting accuracy? To date, little empirical research has been done in this area. The Vlerick Forecasting Research Centre fills this gap.

He believed in me and took me under his wing. Among many things he taught me this quote from Samuel Beckett, which I believe captures the determination and patience that drive me,” says David Veredas, who recently joined us as professor of financial markets. His research focuses more specifically on systemic risk and tail risk and tail correlation.

  9. NexTrust consortium receives European funding for research on collaboration across supply chain networks

    NexTrust - a 30 member consortium of some of Europe’s leading thinkers on collaborative logistics - has secured a grant from the European Commission (EC). The grant has been awarded in a competition entitled “Fostering synergies alongside the supply chain (including e-commerce)” under Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The project with a duration of 42 months is administrated by the EC’s Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA). Professor Robert Boute and research associate Tom Van Steendam who represent Vlerick Business School as a consortium partner, will do research on horizontal and vertical collaboration within logistics based on a set real-life pilot cases throughout Europe.

He joined us from the renowned Portuguese university ISCTE, where he was Associate Professor (with aggregation) and President of the Finance Research Centre, President of the Business Research Unit and Dean of the Business School.
