    During the 2015 edition of ‘Management Book of the Year’ the book ‘Customer Innovation’ by Vlerick professor Marion Debruyne has won the prize in the category Innovation & Entrepreneurship. In total 24 books were shortlisted in 5 categories. The award ceremony took place at the British Library in London.

    The book ‘Customer Innovation’ by Vlerick professor Marion Debruyne has been selected by STIMA as Marketing Book of the Year 2014. The award was given to her by jury chairman Rik Duyck during the STIMA new year’s reception in the presence of over 100 members. Moreover, all STIMA members will receive the book as part of their membership advantages.

    How should the banking industry react to the impressive development of crowdfunding? It does not seem to be the case that the rise of crowdfunding constitutes a threat for the banking industry. It appears to be a niche in the credit market, for initiatives which would otherwise not be able to raise funds. Nevertheless, to the question of whether there is an opportunity for banks to enter this market, the answer is less clear.

    During the latest edition of the RENT conference which was held end in Luxemburg end of 2014, Vlerick researcher Jeroen Neckebrouck received the award for Best Doctoral Proposal. Jeroen is currently pursuing a PhD at Vlerick Business School on the effects of private equity on employment security and employment terms in family firms.

    The book 'Customer Innovation' by Vlerick professor Marion Debruyne has been nominated as a finalist in the Marketing Book of the Year 2015 competition. This annual competition selects the best global marketing book from the world wide offer in the last year and it is organised by M&SB, specialist source of marketing & sales intelligence. Marion’s book was selected as one of the 20 top marketing books of last year.

  6. Daniel Dobbeni becomes chairman of association uniting the 17 largest power grid operators

    Daniel Dobbeni - Chairman of the Vlerick Energy Centre - was recently appointed chairman of GO15. Up until this appointment he was vice chairman of this unique initiative that unites seventeen of the largest power grid operators around the world. Together they serve over 3.4 billion customers and transport more than 70% of the world electricity demand.

    During the New Year’s reception the Vlerick 2014 ‘Best Researcher Award’ was granted to Vlerick professors Robert Boute and Veroniek Collewaert. They received the award for their excellent academic output. The Best Researcher Award is an internal prize that was created four years ago to give high-quality research more visibility and to highlight the importance of research for our school.

    On Thursday evening, 27 November, in Utrecht, the book Omnichannel in retail by Vlerick Professor Gino Van Ossel was lauded as the most innovative marketing book of 2014. The book 'Customer Innovation' by Vlerick Professor Marion Debruyne finished in the top 3 as well. Both books have also been nominated in Belgium for Marketing Book of the Year.

  9. André Thibeault serves again on Advisory Council of Risk Management Awards

    In recognition of his expertise in the field of banking and risk management as well as his valuable contributions last year, Vlerick Professor André Thibeault has been invited to renew his participation in the evaluation process for the Risk Management Awards. These awards are annually given to CEOs from different Asian countries and the award ceremony is part of the annual Asian Banker Summit – Asia’s most important event for the Financial Services Industry - which will be held in May 2015.

  10. Microloans create lasting jobs and lead to savings

    Research by Vlerick Business School shows that 60% of those who have benefited from a microStart microloan still run a business. What is more, another 21% of them have started up a business again or are now employees. For the government this means savings of 1.09 million euros in various benefit payments and 1.12 million euros of profit from tax income. microStart is a micro-financing organisation that finances and coaches potential entrepreneurs who have no access to bank credit but who want to start up or develop a small-scale freelance activity.
