Alumni Progress Club: Why we are not happier
Part of the personal development lecture series from the Alumni Progress Club
Why does criticism linger longer than a compliment? Why do we imagine countless future doomsday scenarios? Why do we so easily fall prey to stress, depression, impulsivity, addiction and jealousy? Why aren’t we happier – even when we have every reason to be?
All these questions have the same answer: genetic programming. But happiness is possible. Join this lecture to learn how to take your destiny into your own hands.
Natural selection hasn’t led to us being permanently happy. Instead, it has burdened us with chronic dissatisfaction and endless worrying.
But this doesn’t mean we can’t change things. Philosopher of science Michael Vlerick shows you how to take charge of your happiness. He translates ancient insights and practices – from Buddhism to Stoicism – into a concrete plan, focusing on the power of meditation and modern breakthroughs in the science of happiness.
This event is one of ten personal development lectures hosted by the Alumni Progress Club.
