Barbara Briers

Visiting Professor of Marketing

Brings deep and varied marketing expertise to her teaching on Vlerick’s DBA programme

Barbara Briers is Professor of Marketing at the University of Antwerp and Guest Professor at Ghent University. Previously she has been a faculty member at Vlerick, Tilburg University in the Netherlands and HEC Paris.

Barbara studies the fundamental drivers of how consumers behave and make decisions. Her research focuses on sustainable behaviour and social marketing, drivers of influence and persuasion, food perception and consumption habits, and the effects of wealth inequality in a consumer context. Her work has been published in many renowned international journals.

As well as combining theories and insights from social psychology and economics, Barbara also attempts to apply and extend theories from communication sciences, evolutionary psychology, sociology, and political science. This makes her research highly interdisciplinary – and the implications of it are significant for marketing managers, public policy agents and individual consumers.

At Vlerick, Barbara teaches on the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) programme.
