David Patient

Full Professor of Leadership

Exploring the effects of managerial communication, power and influence

David Patient is an experienced researcher and teacher in leadership and managing people. His key interests lie in managerial communication, power and influence, effective teams, leadership, and employee motivation – and he often investigates the causes and consequences of workplace fairness in different contexts. His research has been published in top academic journals.

Before joining Vlerick, David spent 13 years as a Professor at CATOLICA-LISBON in Portugal, where he developed and coordinated many custom seminars and programmes for Portuguese and international clients. He also served as Associate Dean for Research and Academic Director of a variety of graduate programmes. 

David focuses his teaching on executive audiences, leadership, managerial communication, power and influence, and group and individual decision making.
