Is a doctoral researcher who specialises in using financial mathematics to develop robust methodologies.
Lennert Van der Schraelen is a doctoral researcher at Vlerick and KU Leuven. His work involves developing rigorous methodologies that will give decision makers reliable estimates to work with.
He’s currently investigating how to use advanced machine learning and data engineering to develop fraud detection models – and exploring how textual information can help organisations avoid losses. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) estimates that each year, a typical organisation loses 5% of its revenues to fraud. But monitoring and detecting fraud can enhance a company’s revenue – and boost credibility and customer trust.
Lennert is also involved in our Centre for Financial Leadership and Digital Transformation, where he works closely with Professor Kristof Stouthuysen. And he assists with several accounting courses, as well as the Data Science for Finance and Strategy bootcamp.
