Martin Butler

Professor of Management Practice in Digital Transformation

Martin lectures in digital transformation, project management and innovation management at Vlerick. His current research interests lie in how information systems align with strategy, digital resilience and project portfolio management.

He specialises in the relationship between digital capabilities and strategic intent. He excels in applying project management practices that transform organisations – allowing them to become more innovative and to harness the power of digital technology. Martin believes that successful digital transformation and risk mitigation is fundamentally about leadership actions and human behaviour.

Prior to joining Vlerick, Martin was an Associate Professor and Head of Teaching and Learning at the University of Stellenbosch Business School. He joined academia after a 15-year career in the IT industry where he successfully led numerous project teams. Martin also consults for industry and academia, and is a non-executive director on company boards.
