Arne Buchwald is Associate Professor of Digital Transformation and Information Systems at Vlerick Business School. Before joining Vlerick, he was Assistant Professor of Digital Transformation at EBS Business School in Germany, and gained international experience as a visiting researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), Sweden.
Initially, Arne studied business administration with a focus on information systems at EBS Business School, proceeded with his master studies at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) at Maastricht University, The Netherlands, and completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. Before his academic career, he was a consultant with Horváth & Partners Management Consultants in the CIO & Project Advisory unit for many years, and also founded an IT service provision company.
His research and teaching interests center on the interface of the business administration and the information systems disciplines. Recent research projects particularly focus on the Chief Digital Officer (CDO), bootlegging (bottom-up employee-driven innovations), and blockchain technology. His research results have been published in internationally-renowned journals such as the Journal of Information Technology (JIT) as well as in the proceedings of key international conference proceedings (e.g., ICIS)
