The centrality of entrepreneurship in the current society is expressed as such in scientific and policy discourses as ‘the entrepreneurial economy’ and ‘the entrepreneurial society’. At the macro level entrepreneurship is seen as a driver of structural change and job creation. At the micro level entrepreneurship is the engine behind the formation and subsequent growth of new firms. With regard to job creation it is the relatively small number of fast-growing ‘gazelles’ that make up the lion’s share of jobs.

Professor Hans Crijns gives insight in the entrepreneurial processes and what this can mean for both individuals and companies. His dynamic approach, both academic and pragmatic, focuses on entrepreneurial ventures and how to grow.

Professor Hans Crijns is Partner of Vlerick Business School where he is head of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Director of the Impulse Centre "Growth Management for medium-sized enterprises" (iGMO). As Vlerick Professor he teaches at Peking University (China), and at USB Stellenbosch (South Africa). He also is a Visiting Professor at universities and business schools all over the world. As an expert he has worked for Belgian, Flemish and Dutch Government and the European Commission.

He is co-founder of various entrepreneurial initiatives such as the Vlerick Business Angels Network (BAN), the Académie pour la Croissance des Entreprises (ACE) and the Business Plan competition “EnterPrize”. He acts as Non-Executive Director for a number of medium-sized companies (Soudal, Sobradis, Alsico, NFTE Foundation).
