Vlerick launches stackable micro-credentials that can count towards its MBA
Professionals can upskill throughout their careers, with executive programmes counting towards the MBA under a new stackable micro-credential certification launched by Vlerick Business School.
From today, participants in selected executive programmes can earn an internationally recognised micro-credential by completing an additional assessment. Eligible programmes are Digital Marketing & AI, Digital Strategy & AI, Leading Innovation, Successful Strategy Execution and Venture Capital and Private Equity.
As careers lengthen and AI reshapes work, professionals need to keep their expertise relevant without committing significant time and money at once. Micro-credentials allow them to build business and leadership capabilities gradually as their careers develop. They also enable employers to spread investment over time, target emerging skills gaps and respond more quickly as business needs change.
Professionals can address specific learning needs as they emerge, with each micro-credential providing recognised proof of their learning and earning 2 ECTS. They can also apply up to five micro-credentials towards the Vlerick MBA, gaining exemptions from relevant modules.

“The idea that education happens at a few fixed moments in your life no longer fits the reality of a 40- or 50-year career,” says Marion Debruyne, Dean of Vlerick. “People's roles change, technology changes, and the capabilities organisations need change. Learning needs to evolve too. We want to give professionals learning that's relevant at the moment they need it, in a format that works for them – and which can become part of a lifelong learning journey.”
For employers, the approach offers a more targeted way to upskill and reskill. Organisations can develop capabilities in response to changing business needs, while the assessment gives them greater visibility of what employees have learned.
“People don't necessarily need – or have the time for – a major qualification every time their role changes,” says Marion. “Micro-credentials give them another option. They can develop expertise that's immediately relevant to their work, demonstrate what they've learned and then decide when and how they want to build on it.”
The introduction of micro-credentials is a natural evolution of Vlerick's role as a lifelong learning partner for professionals and organisations, keeping pace with the challenges people and businesses face. It's why thousands of professionals and organisations choose Vlerick to help them stay agile, relevant and ready for what comes next.
“We can't know exactly what skills we'll need in ten or twenty years,” says Marion. “But we can make sure people and organisations have a way to keep learning as the world changes around them. This is what lifelong learning increasingly needs to deliver.”
